Upbeat Giraffe is an update for Starbound that went live on January 28, 2015. The update added and changed many features, and because of it, creating new characters was suggested and old characters were moved to another file-path in the Starbound directory, rendering them unusable (old characters are still existent, however, and a tool to update them is possibly in the works).
In theory it adds a slave of each race (save the new starkid, lazerkid, whateverkid) that produces various items that can be used to craft things. It was worked on from April 2014, under the build name Rampaging Koala, until December 9th, 2014, when the nightly build name changed to Upbeat Giraffe.Upbeat was the first "giraffe" build name, a suffix which would continue for the rest of Starbound's beta.
